I Phone Pre Phone U Phone??

It was mobile mania all again this week.Palm Pre hit the stores and made a record breaking sales (rumored to be more than 50,000 units in just 2 days!!).

Apple’s WWDC devoid of Steve Jobs still had something solid to show Iphone 3GS.  (faster better iphone ..but not very exciting as the previous ones).

Meanwhile Dhiru and Tiger took their blogging to a professional level after attending the Nokia N97 launch in India.3615683376_422978a68e_o

While Dhiru stands up for Apple 3GS (btw he is apple biased :p ) when compared to N97, I put my bet on the new Palm Pre which is considered as the first true iphone killer. It has a QWERTY keyboard which is one of things Iphone will love to have. The Web OS is the real deal which beats the iphone OS .The ability to run many applications at once, touch accuracy, mail,IM  notifications  while running any app,etc make it far superior even than the upcoming iphone 3.o.

Still iPhone’s large application base, build quality,iPod scores over the Pre.But I think a large chunk of business  users may shift to Pre ,considering the cost advantage(refer pic),and business features like  MS exchange and Office.

As far i can see,the $99 iphone 3G will give the Pre a stiff competition than the iphone 3GS.

While the N97 with a price tag of $699,can kiss US markets goodbye..Asian markets is not much promising either. And with HTC planning to launch Android phones in India, they better plan something better.

Meanwhile I am trying to lose my Sony Ericsson “accidentally” and get  a Nokia  ..waiting for Nokia 2730-budget phone with 3G

  1. hey lakshmi..
In my view for creating an iphone killer.... competing with Apple's OSX is more important than the hardware part. Nokia missed it out(in N97) while palm got it.Palm hired Jon rubinstein from Apple for the same under whose supervision the project developed.Though google understood this long back, it could'nt take over Apple from any end. The biggest competition for WebOs is to draw attention of developers and give a fight to the Appstore.Let's wait till 17th before we could compare OSX 3.0 and WEB OS.
One thing which clearly scores above iphone is pre's tie up with Sprint as against Apple's AT&T.
I think most of the actual iphone users (including me), never felt the need for a QWERTY keaboard for iphone.
And regarding $99 pricing of current model, it will just be there till the entire stock clears out(with out new production).Same thing happened last year when the current model was released, to clear then existing 1st generation iphone stocks.

  2. Yes sprint is considered as the best and is much more better than AT&T..
"actual i phone users"....i am talking about business users, who reply to emails from phone, who blog etc,etc..the qwerty keyboard is one of the main reasons, business users still opt for blackberry's over the iphone..iphone may be cool, but its still not considered as a serious smartphone but a great multimedia gadget.

  3. ya.. i agree....
i said iphone users never looked for it....
the target segment of iphone is definitely not the serious business users.... that's the clear difference between blackberry and iphone...one cant serve the purpose of the other in most cases..lets see if palm pre can satisfy both...

  4. wow, now thats a new perspective, but when steve introduced the iphone ,he said he wanted to create a alternative to existing smartphones and displayed Nokia E series, Blackberry and a couple of others.
But if it really wanted to create a new segment of a internet driven multimedia device,I definitely agree with ur points.Iphone is a revolution,no doubt abt that, but the blackberrys are here to stay...in that sense nobody has to kill the iphone ,for the iphone wont kill others except maybe for phones like Nokia N series.

  5. Though the intent was to create an alternative for then existing business phones... i think iphone is now serving a different market. We can compare this scenario with TATA Indica in India, where the company intended to create a passenger car but ended up serving a different purpose which made the company to look at the actually created segment and come up with indicab... in the same way even apple realized it. May be that's the reason it didnt come up with a QWERTY keyboard even in its 2nd and 3rd generation iphones, which will be one of the main attractions for business users.

  6. Hi Both...

I vote for iPhone as its a pleasure to use Qwerty or no qwerty. It is smooth, silky and concentrated on making things as user friendly as possible. Coming to iPhone killers, by the time other firms come up with 2g killer Apple creates a better version and it becomes chase the shadow game.

  7. Hey,
I completely agree with you on what you had to say about N97! I just got to use it as a friend of mine has bought it, and trust me the phone (even though it has a 128mb ram) is bloody damn slow.. Its processing sucks and it looks like, when half the phone memory is full it will take all day to load...
iPhone need not consider this sad huge expensive piece of shit as competition... :) lolz...!!!
